Dockside Egerton House – New Wirral Event Space

Dockside Egerton House – New Wirral Event Space

AMAZING NEW EVENT VENUE –  DOCKSIDE EGERTON HOUSE

It’s open – Wirral’s latest part event space at Dockside Egerton House
Check out how amazing is this place with its unique views across the  Birkenhead docks.

Situated on the south quay of Egerton Dock, on the eastern side of the Wirral Peninsula is Wirral’s newest event space.
Steeped in maritime history, a former banana warehouse, this unique building is the only one of its kind remaining on the docklands today.
Adjacent is the historic Egerton Bridge which would make for unique wedding portraits underneath. – the road is quiet so little traffic to worry about

Egerton House is the Headquarters of Wirral Chamber of Commerce. Business owners have great facilities here being situated in the commercial zone of Birkenhead.
Ideally situated within walking distance of Hamilton Square train station, Woodside Ferry terminal (ferries currently not running from here but Seacombe Ferry)l, and bus station.

Address: Egerton House, 2 Tower Rd, Birkenhead CH41 1FN

History of Egerton House

The building was originally an important warehouse linking sea-going freight services with the LNWR and Great Western Railways.
It was constructed and opened in 1874 and its name comes from a prolific 19th century Chester MP  Sir Philip de Malpas-Grey Egerton.

Egerton House stored many commodities in its heyday but the connection with the West Indies banana trade gave its local name the “Banana Warehouse”.
Throughout the early 1900s, the warehouse was bustling and hence the docklands and maritime-related engineering sector were the essential driving force of Wirral’s economy.
So Egerton House is truly a historic place to house new enterprises such as commercial and event spaces for hire.

Facilities of Dockside at  Egerton House

The entrance to Dockside event space is situated on the right-hand side of the main entrance with its own separate entrance door
There is some visitor parking and some overspill car parking available. Remember it does have good public transport links too.

Fantastic facilities at Dockside – brand spanking new – including modern sparkly toilets – go check them out!
The Bar area, cosy seating areas, and round tables seating easily seat 80 up to 120
Mood lighting is available to suit your colour vibe.

Kitchen facilities are not on site but you have the flexibility to bring in your own caterers  – recently a long marquee was set up accessed by two doorways just outside to hold catering.
Alternatively, food vans such as Pizza, fish and chip vans, ice cream, etc can be parked outside
Plans are afoot to have table and chairs placed outside too for the summer months

Wedding Plan Idea

Finally how about this idea for your wedding day?
Have a civil ceremony at Birkenhead Town Hall in nearby Hamilton Square and then walk down to the top of Woodside and take the hong kong vintage tram to the Transport Museum
What a unique way to transport your guests from Woodside to the transport museum, just a short 3-minute walk away from  Dockside at Egerton House
A fab way to arrive at your venue.

Trams operate a half-hourly return service between Woodside and the Museum, commencing at 1.00 pm from Woodside – the final tram departing Woodside at 4.30 pm.
Contact the transport museum for further details

It’s so good to have new venue spaces opening up on the Wirral – we have lost a few recently- Peel Hey, Kings Gay by Wildes, Sheldrakes closed and Thornton Manor currently closed for weddings.
There are Wirral venue solutions for all styles and sizes of weddings and events and we hope you will love Egerton House as a modern space with dock views and flexible catering.

If you need a photographer for your event please drop us a message via our contact form

HISTORY OF HILLBARK HOTEL

Hillbark is a stunning grade-listed II building, originally built-in 1891 in Bidston Birkenhead for the soap maker Robert William Hudson when it was known as Bidston Court. Following a sale in 1921 to Sir Ernest Royden it was carefully moved brick by brick to its current location in the beautiful grounds and glorious park setting of Royden Park. What an undertaking that was!

The Great Hall at Hillbark Hotel  is an architectural masterpiece with its  Jacobean fireplace dating back to 1527 and William Morris stained glass windows.
The church screen doors date back to the 13th century so oodles of historic charm and elegance for your Hillbark Hotel Wedding

BRIDAL PREPS HILLBARK HOTEL WEDDINGS

The Bridal suite – Room 106 Haddon Hall is the most luxurious room of the 16 unique rooms available at Hillbark Hotel
It has dark panelling and a huge 4-poster bed – perfect for hanging your dress on for a photo –  and wonderful views over the Dee Estuary.
It’s a gorgeous room to have your bridal prep in with your maids.

GRAND HALL HILLBARK HOTEL WEDDINGS

Brides cross the Minstrels gallery above whilst their grooms and guests are waiting below in the Grand Hall
The usual wedding set for the ceremony room is for guests to be facing towards the front and see the bride cross.
The groom rarely sees the bride crossing as virtually underneath the gallery

Alternatively, chairs can be set out the other way.  This is a good option for a secondary photographer, to capture the bridal dress train from above as the bride enters the ceremony room.
However, you are often faced with a big wall of windows and bright light!
Plus your guests won’t see you cross the Minstrel Gallery

GRAND HALL RECEPTIONS

Following the wedding ceremony, whilst you enjoy canapes and mingling with guests for photos, the Grand Hall is turned around for your wedding breakfast. The view from the minstrel gallery affords unique views for your table settings.

The top table is typically set in front of the fireplace with its Robert Adam surround.
Also makes a great place for little vases of flowers and candles to be displayed.

When the weather is clement those elegant chairs from the drawing room can be set around a long table on the outdoor terrace
The comfy sofas in the adjacent lawn make for a cosy more informal setting, yet still elegant for a wedding breakfast.
If it gets too hot an open-sided marquee can be placed over for some shade.
This was a perfect setting for a covid restricted Hillbark Hotel wedding when outdoor receptions only were permitted
