How appropriate for Remembrance Day is this blog post of a winter wedding at Thornton Hall Hotel with Jake and Sophie. Jake served in the British Army in Afghanistan sadly several of his mates are no longer around to celebrate his wedding day. On this day of remembrance we pause and remember all those who lost their lives serving for their country.
A wedding day Jake nearly never had too..he and his best man were shot up in blasts in Afghanistan and have been slowly recuperating..a recent operation was just a few months ago. Must be every girlfriends nightmare to receive such news from the war. can only imagine the emotions and thoughts that went through their minds, not knowing what the future might hold. Sophie determinedly and devotedly looked after Jake, virtually becoming his carer over night. I’m sure that must have aided his recovery, so to see them healthy and happy on their wedding day was truly a blessing. I got quite teary eyed hearing their story in the speeches before the wedding breakfast.
Detail shots were captured at Sophie’s parents home whilst Sophie and her maids were in Liverpool for hair and makeup pampering. I was glad to cover the getting ready details when the girls arrived back, whilst Dave went off to St George’s in Thornton Hough to meet the guys prior to the ceremony. Ha I got to ride in the limo with the bridesmaids too – ther was plenty of room! It was a lovely touch to see some of the congregation attend the ceremony, meant a lot to Sophie and Jake who enjoy attending the services here.
Sophie’s Dad proudly led his only daughter down the aisle to Jake – lovely shot of Sophie smiling as Jake had to compose himself Sophie looked amazing in her Stella York dress from Cherish the Bride with its accompanying lace edged cathedral length veil. Not sure who was more nervous Jake with his bride being nearly 3o mins late or the minister doing only his third wedding! All went well and soon it was out for a group shot before the waiting cars whisked them off to Thornton Hall
Barely a hour to before speeches, we whizzed through a few family formals and bride and groom portraits, phew that was quick but we made it! Time then for us all to eat the delicious food prepared by Thornton Hall Hotel and then time to mingle with the guests before the evening reception Much fun was had in the photobooth and we got a few more shots using the hotel features after the meal using extra lighting that is needed for winter weddings. Jake and Sophie it was a real privilege to cover your wonderful day and we wish you much happiness and health for the future.

We have covered a wonderful Nunsmere Hall Wedding before, it’s a gorgeous country House Hotel. so many photo options. So we were delighted to be back here with Libby and Chris towards the end of June as their Nunsmere Hall Wedding Photographer. We had met Libby and Chris at the very first Hulme Hall wedding fayre run by the Bridal Show. We were thrilled when chatting after the wedding that Libby said she had chosen us as she could see it was more than a business but a passion to us – she watched us taking details at the fayre
We met at the rehearsal a couple of days beforehand for their Church ceremony at St Gorges URC Church in Thornton Hough There we discovered Sandy knew Libby’s parents from many years ago – small world! so that was a great start to a relaxed wedding even before we got to Bridal preps at her mum’s home. The wedding timeline was well planned, an early ceremony to make the most of the day and to allow for a longer journey to the venue
Bride and Groom Preps
Fab presents at the preps – Libby was given a day at the Liverpool recording Studios and Chris was made up with his table soccer With all timings going to plan (thanks to co-ordination with Emma MUA we got some fun shots with the girls helping Libby get dressed and captured Libby’s Mum and Dad’s reaction on seeing her in her gorgeous gown from Bridal Elegance ..and then the bridesmaids were crying at their reaction! Equally chilled out for groom preps, and of course they didn’t head straight to the church but to the pub across the road for some dutch courage we did have to coax them away before Libby arrived!
The minister at St Georges was really accommodating to us we cold shoot from the front and the back – always great to get both angles It was an engaging ceremony – think we detected a tear in Chris’s eye when he saw his Bride. arriving by his side It was a joyous ceremony and we had the choir singing too.
The reception Venue
Nunsmere Hall Wedding events is under new management, same company as Peckforton Castle (and now also Inglewood Manor) with same excellent service. The grounds and Marquee have been vastly improved (not that they were bad before, but the garden landscaping means the mere is now much more evident from the grounds. The extended marque has a lovely backdrop onto the lake too. The gardens are gorgeous and colourful as ever. Really spoilt for choices for where to take wedding portraits during your Nunsmere Hall wedding
Beautiful venue decoration by The Raspberry tree company for a woodland rustic theme and with a Tranmere Rovers football twist for Chis with the table names Loved the pallet table plan with its little buckets of flowers – genius ! The newly extended marquee looked resplendent with all their creativeness. The pearlescent heart shaped place names were hung on the back of the chairs ..it was lovely to see guests wearing them later on in the evening too
Libby’s band Shark Sandwich played in the evening – what a treat they were!, certainly got the crowd dancing, great party atmosphere plus they got Libby to sing a couple of songs too. So glad we stayed a bit longer than the first dance to capture these moments Check out the highlights below! Thank you Libby and Chris for asking us to capture your amazing day. much love Sandy and Dave
