Choosing right Ceremony at St Georges Hall Registry Weddings

St Georges Hall Liverpool Registry Weddings

St Georges Hall Weddings are a favourite with Pixsmiths  and we have covered several weddings here over many years.
The iconic St Georges Hall is such a popular venue for in Liverpool for city centre civil ceremonies.
We decided to provide some info and tips for your Liverpool registry wedding ceremony at St George’s Hall and which room may suit your requirements best, according to size of your party.

St George's Hall Liverpool

St Georges Hall is an iconic Grade I listed building in Liverpool city centre.
A fine example of neoclassical architecture at its best.
it has hosted many historic events, from the Beatles to the city’s football club homecomings after league and cup victories. It boasts many first too:-
First air-conditioned commercial building
largest barrel-vaulted ceiling (when first built)
the largest piped concert organ in the world.

Plus a stunning Minton mosaic floor of over 30,000 tiles – uncovered for just a few special occasions and dates
Well worth seeing when on display to the public.

It’s home to the Liverpool registrars  – situated on the south side, Heritage centre.
The first registry wedding took place here in February 2012.
Its no wonder then that’s it’s a very popular place to get married in the town centre.
Especially if you just want a simple wedding and move onto a city centre restaurant or hotel for a reception afterwards.

Choosing your Ceremony room

There are several rooms to choose from and choosing the right room for your ceremony is an important consideration.
Ensure your guests know which room it is too and how to get there – we often get confused guests asking which way they get in and which side.
Especially on Saturdays when multiple can weddings take place at the same time.

THE GRAND JURY

The Grand Jury room is the most popular choice – a gracious wooden-panelled room that can accommodate up to 70 guests. Available Monday to Saturday
Webcam facilities are available in the Grand Jury Room so you have the option to stream your ceremony, for family and friends who are unable to attend.

Light is from a ceiling skylight – which can cause harsh/mixed lighting in bright sunshine.
It’s situated on the second floor.  The entrance can be made via the Heritage centre and using lifts – best for those who need easy access.
Alternatively, ascend the steps up to the front colonnades to the red-carpeted ceremony entrance.
Wonderful documentary images can be made if the bride opts to walk in this way.

Again there is a lift here to the upper floor or staircase.

Please note access for your cars to be parked on St George’s plateau needs advance booking – a fee is payable for this.
contact 0151 233 3020 to book your space.

Too many guests can mean standing room only at the back for your guests and limited space for your photographer to get overview shots from the back too.
Too few guests and the room could look empty and lack atmosphere.
It’s better to choose one of the smaller rooms available – more on that in a moment.

SEFTON ROOM

For smaller ceremonies, the classically decorated Sefton Room is ideal and holds up to 50 guests. Available Monday to Saturday.

It overlooks the picturesque St Johns Gardens and its floor length windows flood the room with natural daylight – keeps your photographer happy!
and classically decorated. The Sefton Room is just around the corner from The Grand Jury room on the same floor.

Webcam facilities are also available in the Sefton Room so you have the option to stream your ceremony, for family and friends who are unable to attend.

Joe and Claire married here a couple of months ago, Pixsmiths were delighted to capture their ceremony and family groups and portraits afterwards
Here are a few of their pics showing the Sefton Room ceremony and afterwards.

The grand columns and architecture make a great backdrop for your groups and portraits.
Allow time for groups and portraits here if required.

ROSE ROOM

Is your day just about the two of you, a more intimate ceremony with just witnesses, an elopement perhaps?
Then the  Rose Room is for you. It is situated next door to the Seton Room and seats up to four guests.
Perfect for you and your witnesses and photographer.  This is the room where the registrar normally checks your certificate details prior to the ceremony.

The Rose Room is available Monday to Thursday before 11 am.

GRAND HALL AND CONCERT ROOM (not run by Liverpool registrars)

Of course, The Grand Hall and Concert room are ideal spaces for a lavish grand setting of a wedding – situated on the opposite side of the heritage centre.
A stunning room for your wedding celebration the Grand Hall accommodates up to 600 guests and is adorned with bronze door, marble walls and chandeliers.
If your date coincides with the Minton tiles being on display, how wonderful would that be?

The Concert Hall at another end of the Grand Hall is opulently decorated with statues and chandeliers.  It’s circular in shape and seats 500 guests – 88 for a wedding breakfast in the centre.

Ashleigh & Andy Married

Some of our couples opt for Intimate Liverpool wedding.
Those who don’t want a big fuss or don’t like being the centre of attention.
We are happy to cover such intimate Liverpool wedding photography and offer bespoke special deals.

We met for an informal chat and right away felt at ease with each other.
Ashleigh and Andy told us what they wanted for their day and our guidance through the process and showing them images of their venue.
It really assured them of how their day would unfold.  Such an invaluable process to have a discussion with your photographers, even for short wedding coverage

Local Bride Preps

As a local couple to us, we arranged an hour’s coverage of bridal preps before heading to Liverpool for the city centre wedding.
Ashleigh and her two bridesmaids were well looked after by Carol Ellis Thompson doing hair.
It was such a calming and relaxed atmosphere, so enjoyable.
Ashleigh and Andy have a beautiful home and the clean contemporary backgrounds were ideal for showing off the details

Intimate Liverpool Wedding Photography – Ceremony St Georges Hall

Flags were flying high at St Georges Hall and red carpet out as Ashleigh swept up the external steps to enter.
The wedding was on a Monday afternoon and the only one that afternoon, so peaceful!
Saturday weddings here can be chaotic with so many function rooms available and numerous weddings taking place.

The Rose Room is available for very small weddings  – the couple and witnesses ideally.
The Sefton Room is most suited to small weddings and has beautiful window light.
The concert room is a grand setting for large weddings at St Georges Hall
The Grand Jury Room can seat up to 50 guests comfortably this is where Ashleigh & Andy opted for their ceremony.

Just a dozen or so guests and Ashleigh was walked in by Andy’s dad – what a lovely touch.
A beautiful emotional ceremony ensued.
When it came to the I do’s, Andy replied with ” I do, I really, really do!”  Cue lump in throat moment as clicking the camera shutter!
So many beautiful moments between them, so adorable, so obviously in love.
Registers signed and with beaming smiles, they swept down the stairs and out to confetti shots.

Portraits St Georges Hall Liverpool

Few family groups over and then time for some portraits with Ashleigh and Andy amongst the amazing colonnades architecture of this grand Liverpool building.
Such a relaxed time but it soon flew by and it was off to the taxi rank across the road to get them to their hotel reception.
Of course, took the chance to get some more candid shots in the city centre as they crossed over.

Wirral Marquee Wedding Reception: Laura & Dan

Wirral Marquee Wedding Reception: Laura & Dan

Relaxed Cheshire Marquee Wedding Reception

A cross river ceremony and then back for a Wirral  Cheshire Marquee wedding reception was organised to perfection and gave Laura and Dan just the day they had planned and envisioned.

Pre-ceremony Preparations

The girls were all getting ready at a new amazing Airbnb in West Kirby.  We were all blown away by the spacious rooms and décor.  It was such a great space with 6 en-suite rooms and a huge kitchen lounge area …confess my eyes turned green!
It was a relaxed easy-going morning with some really cute shots with Rebecca, Laura’s flower girl too.
Laura’s sister was a bridesmaid and 4 close friends also enjoyed the morning here with makeup and looking after Laura  – plenty of space for everyone.

Dan meantime was enjoying the last few hours a single man in the Ship and Mitre pub in Liverpool.
This was just a short distance from St Gorge’s Hall in Liverpool where the ceremony was to take place in the Grand Jury room

Liverpool Ceremony

Laura arrived driven by her father in his range rover. Knew she would look stunning as she had done a few catwalk shows for The Bridal Show wedding fayres.  Her dad however was completely bowled over and emotional when he saw Laura in her gorgeous dress from Tina Louise  – a Ronald Joyce design with beautiful crystal detail on the bodice and straps.
Always get a tear in my eye too at these moments – such a privilege to share.
With it being cross-river Laura had arranged a lift for Sandy with the girls so these moments could be captured whilst Dave was in Liverpool in the pub with the guys – the beauty of having two photographers.
Laura had even arranged a parking permit for Dave to park at St George’s Hall – underlining how every aspect for the day had been thought through with consideration for everyone.

Cheshire Marquee Wedding Reception

Laura and Dan wanted a home marquee so they could use their own catering company of choice and not have any curfew times on music.  Guests could hang out as long as they wished.  It was the perfect plan.
Big D cooked a delicious American BBQ – fitting the theme of the tables so named for Laura and Dan’s favourite American road trip.  The marquee was provided by Astra MArquees a fab local company and flowers to decorate inside were done beautifully by Oxton Flowers

The day just flowed – the ceremony beautifully including Rebecca to the group shot on the steps of St George’s Hall
The confetti coming through the flower arch at home – a few family formals then plenty of mingling time before speeches and then the BBQ.  hey we even had dancing before the speeches!

After the meal, we wandered over to the sea wall accessed from their property for some gorgeous golden hour and sunsets shots.  Shots as planned and a contrast to the architectural shots in Liverpool.
It was also a perfect impromptu time for this family to enjoy the setting sun on their wedding day  – complete with the family pet dog
Then it was back to cake and dancing, sparklers and cheese, chutney and chunky bread if anyone was still hungry.
The hay bales with lace throw overs,  fire pits for toasting marshmallows and provided blankets were a lovely touch to allow guests to continue to enjoy the outside space.

Laura’s Tips for a Home Wedding

If you can having a home wedding reception has lots of advantages, but does take some planning.
Laura has kindly added some of her own thoughts and suggestions for a home marquee reception and how to make it personal to you.

Really make the most of your friends and families creative side. Let close friends and family really put their stamp on the day. For us what was great and that we wouldn’t have been able to do at a venue is allow our friends to do a bar as a wedding present for us. They brought a range of different drinks from Scotland for people to try. In addition, we were able to have our friend bring two kegs of craft beer from his newly opened brewery in Wales. When it came to the evening, Dan made all the chutneys for the cheese cake and my uncle made fresh bread for everyone. These individual touches really made the day so special to us
Secondly, if you are doing everything yourself don’t underestimate how long it takes to decorate a marquee!
I’m not sure how venue decorators and florist do it in one morning – we spend two whole days!
Thirdly, if you are having a wedding at home then really give people an insight into your life. We had many pictures decorating the tables of our unforgettable Californian road trip ?
We even had our dog escaping and joining in the party which wasn’t planned but made the day much more special.

Also one of the most amazing things about having a wedding at home for us is that we get some beautiful pictures at our home
and also places like the seawall where we enjoying walking the dog everyday. It makes those beautiful places that we already love even more special

Finally I think I owe so much to my Mum – she was much better at visualising the day and the decorations – her whole spare room was full of wedding decorations for at least a year before the wedding. Little additions such as the personalised sparklers and  individual charms for glasses -were all her idea and went down so well.
I think bringing out the fun side of the guests with lawn games, bouncy castles, toasting marshmallows on fire pits and sparklers made everyone leave at the end of the night with a big smile on their face!

What an awesome day! Just the type of wedding we really enjoy. The bond between this family was a real joy to behold .
Laura and Dan we so enjoyed this wedding journey with you and know we will keep in touch.
Wishing you many more years of happiness.  Enjoy your highlights xx

Laura planted flowers in wellies and wheelbarrows to make it more personal because horses are her life outside work!
and wellies are the order of the day here.
